Nepal Society of the Disabled

  • A 1-day experiences, progress and income/expenditure sharing programme was organized by NSD in support of Government of Nepal (GoN) in the participation of PWDs (target groups of the self-employment programme through Co-operative for PWDs from marginalized groups) and representatives of govt. at Union House, Kathmandu on 16 July 2014.
  • Professional capacity development trainings and capital mobilization among targeted groups (PWDs and their guardian from marginalized groups staying at different places of Kathmandu valley) were carried out by NSD in support of GoN from 15 January 2014 to 16 July 2014.
  • Inclusive self-help groups were formed and professional capacity development trainings were organized by NSD in support of Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF), and savings and credits were mobilized for PWDs and their guardians from marginalized groups through Nepal Society of the Disabled Multipurpose Co-operative (NSDMC) from 21 August 2012 to 13 April 2014.
  • Inclusive self-help groups at local level were formed, professional capacity development trainings were organized and seed money mobilized from 31 December 2011 to 14 July 2012 under the economic empowerment of the PWDs for social inclusiveness programme supported by CFLI/CIDA. The programme was implemented in Mainabagar of Rupendehi district, Maidi VDC of Dhading district, and PWDs and their guardian from marginalized groups staying at different places of Kathmandu valley.
  • A national debate on challenge and solution of access of conflict affected PWDs in transitional justice was organized by NSD in support of OHCHR among political parties, civil society, human rights organizations, media, CA members, PWDs, etc. at World Trade Centre, Tripureshor, Kathmandu on 20 June 2011.
  • Press conference for publicizing the demand of conflict affected PWDs was organized by NSD at Reporters Club, Putalisadak, Kathmandu on 29 June 2011.
  • A 1-day district level interaction programme on access of conflict affected PWDs in transitional justice was organized by NSD in support of OHCHR among representatives of govt. bodies, civil society, political parties, conflict affected PWDs, etc. at Shishir Hotel, Rukum district on 13 April 2011.
  • Visual case studies of conflict affected PWDs of Khara, Bairagithati and Baagkhora of Rukum and Marke, Shrinagar and Tharmare of Salyan districts made in April 2011 and shared in the national level workshops organized by NSD.
  • A 1-day district level interaction programme on access of conflict affected PWDs in transitional justice was organized by NSD in support of OHCHR among representatives of govt. bodies, civil society, political parties, conflict affected PWDs, etc. at Khalangaa, Salyan district on 17 April 2011.
  • A 1-day regional level interaction programme on the analysis of the draft of CA thematic committee from the perspective of PWDs was organized by NSD in support of CIDA/CCO among PWDs, political parties, civil society, CA member representing of disabled sector in CA, etc. at Hetauda, Makawanpur on 23 February 2011.
  • A 1-day regional level interaction programme on the analysis of the draft of CA thematic committee from the perspective of PWDs was organized by NSD in support of CIDA/CCO among PWDs, political parties, civil society, CA member representing of disabled sector in CA, etc. in Dhangadhi on 8 February 2011.
  • A 1-day regional level interaction programme on the analysis of the draft of CA thematic committee from the perspective of PWDs was organized by NSD in support of CIDA/CCO among PWDs, political parties, civil society, CA member representing of disabled sector in CA, etc. at Ghorahi, Dang on 25 January 2011.
  • To make political parties more responsible, a sit-in programme with the main slogan of “raise the voice in the support of peace and constitution and give pressure for the end of current obstacle” was organized by NSD in the western gate of CA building on 26 September 2010.
  • Aiming to pressurizing for ending the current political obstacle, a 1-day national level interaction programme on appeal to political parties from the disabled sector for ending the current political obstacles was organized by NSD among leaders of disabled sectors, leaders of major political parties, etc. at Reporters Club, Kathmandu on 25 September 2010.
  • An interaction programme on the role of disabled sector for supporting to build Loktrantik (Democratic) Constitution including peace and disabled friendly was organized by NSD among the leaders of disabled sectors at central office of NSD, Kathmandu on 23 September 2010.
  • A 1-day national level interaction programme on ‘Loktantrik (Democratic) Constitution with disabled friendly and role of sister organizations of political parties in building political agreement for the establishment of sustainable peace’ was organized by NSD in support of CIDA/CCO at Centre for Constitutional Dialogue (CCD), Buddhanagar, Kathmandu on 21 May 2010.
  • Monitoring of the indefinite strike called by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in Kathmandu was carried out by NSD from 3-9 June 2010.
  • Radio jingles were aired via Ujyalo F.M., and hoarding boards were placed at Maitighar Mandala and in front of CA building for peace and disabled friendly constitution from 15 January to 13 June 2010.
  • NSD handover the issues of PWDs to the different Constituent Assembly drafting thematic committees from 15 January to 10 February 2010.
  • NSD jointly with Development Democracy Nepal (DDN) partner broadcasted radio programmes (i.e. Radio Nepal Dhankuta-"Belako Boli, Solu F.M- “Sambidhan Sabha ma Yo Sata (This week in CA)” from 1 March to 30 May 2009.
  • Published and distributed the books and lobbying booklets named Voice of PWDs for New Constitution; Issues of PWDs Collected from Five Development Regions for New Constitution; and the Issues of PWDs be written compulsorily in New Constitution, on 18 January 2009.
  • A 1-day workshop on "specification of collected issues from five development regions" was organized by NSD among PWDs leaders and human rights activists at Staff College, Jawulakhel, Lalitpur on 29 December 2008.
  • A 2-day regional level interaction programmes on identification of issues of PWDs for disabled friendly constitution were organized by NSD in support of CIDA/CCO in Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Jawulakhel, Pokhara and Biratnagar on 27-28 August, 15-16 September, 25-26 September, 13-14 November and 20-21 November 2008 respectively.
  • A 1-day district level and regional level interaction programmes on inclusion of PWDs in Constitution Assembly was organized by NSD in 64 districts of five development regions from 21 May 2007 to 30 January 2008.
  • NSD facilitated a 2-day workshop on "Training Needs Assessment for the Disabled" organized by Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) on 9-10 January 2007.
  • A 1-day workshop on disabled's access to education for all (EFA) and school improvement was organized by NSD in support of World Education in Kathmandu on 5 January 2006.
  • A 1-day workshop on "Khane Pani Tatha Sarsafai Ma Apangaharu ko Pahuch" (Disabled’s access to drinking water and sanitation) was organized by NSD in support of Water Aid Nepal on 4 July 2005.
  • A 2-day workshop on the role of the principals in the educations of disabled student was organized by NSD in the support of World Vision International for the school principals of Lalitpur district on 17-18 August 2005.
  • A 5-month long ‘Book Binding and Printing Machine Operating Training’ was organized by NSD for PWDs from marginalized groups living in Kathmandu valley from 15 June to 15 December 2000.
  • NSD has been publishing "Apanga Sashaktikaran" (Disabled Empowerment), a monthly magazine, in Nepali version since 2004. It has been advocating the rights of PWDs.
  • Stove, Gas Stove and Pressure Cooker repairing training for PWDs or their guardians from marginalized groups living in Kathmandu valley was organized by NSD in support of CFLI/CIDA from 11 March 2005 to 30 May 2006.
  • A 6-month long sewing and knotting training for women with disabilities and/or their guardians was organized by NSD in support of Australian Embassy from 27 February to July 2002.
  • A 4-month long training in regards to the production of verity products from the Nepali Lokta Paper was organized by NSD for professional capacity development of PWDs from 16 December 1999 to 30 March 2000.
  • With the coordination and support of CIDA/CCO, the first cooperative organization in the disability sector named Nepal Society of the Disabled Multipurpose Co-operative (NSDMC) was established and book binding, screen print and printing related trainings were organized by NSD in coordination and collaboration with NSDMC from 25 July 1998 to 30 September 1999.
  • A 6-month long sewing and knotting (Hojiyeri) training for women with disabilities and/or their guardians staying in Kathmandu valley was organized by NSD from 1 January to 30 June 1996.
  • A 4-month long candle production training was organized by NSD in support of Danida for PWDs and their guardians staying in Kathmandu valley from 1 August to 30 November 1995.
